In the summer of 2012, four lads and lasses from Liverpool the Bay Area came together to support Socorra Camposanto’s (Peace Corps Volunteer-Morocco) debut solo EP, Little by Little. After a couple jam sessions and shows, the group decided to become an official band because they realized that the chemistry they shared on stage was special.

Surreal Estate brings together the band’s varied musical interests ranging all the way from folk to electronica, and melds them all into a hybrid genre that an anonymous fan classifies as “awesome.” They are constantly collaborating on new material and as Socorra Camposanto states, “it’s way more fun bringing a song idea to the table and having us all run with it.” The band is made up of Socorra Camposanto on vocals, guitar, and percussion, Dean Santiago on vocals and guitar, Steve Keck on bass, and Vanessa Perkins on piano/keys and accordion. They are looking forward to performing at the Support Girls, Support the World benefit concert in order to help these great causes!

Surreal Estate is now working on recording their newest musical creations. Keep your ears pealed!

You can check out Socorra’s solo EP (a benefit CD for girls’ shelter in Fez, Morocco) here.

Waiting Room

waiting room picWaiting Room is a three-piece indie rock band hailing from Oakland. Since Waiting Room’s inception in late 2010, the band has been honing their craft through live performances and recording sessions in the Bay Area and beyond. What started as an offhand idea has turned into a novel sonic catalogue of matters of the heart. Waiting Room creates songs that earnestly depict the human experience: loss, joy, hope, and above all, love.

Heather Strange

warehousesquat1

Heather Strange is a singer/songwriter whose songs exist in the dreamland between unreality and the starscape. She often ponders what it means to be human because she finds it to be a surprising condition in which to find oneself. Her dynamic guitar playing and heartfelt songsinging will lure you into the fold and leave you feeling uniquely you.

While serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali (2003-2005), Heather spontaneously wrote her now semi-famous “Soap Song” at a youth leadership camp in Bamako. While she had had previous opportunities to entertain others in Mali before then, it was at this camp where something really clicked. Generally speaking, while not a part of her official assignment, playing guitar and writing improvised songs proved to be an instrumental part of her experience in Mali. Not only is this sort of activity culturally appropriate (songs about social improvement and education are one major way in which information is transmitted in Mali), it helped Heather connect with the people with whom she worked at a much deeper level for which she is eternally grateful. She found that music is an empowering force that creates space wherein anyone can speak their mind and build up the confidence necessary to take those first steps towards positive change.

Sarah Jaye

image-1Sarah Jaye is a Bay Area native who in the last year, has been performing collaboratively in a side project called, Autumn Pie. Only recently has she begun to revisit her roots as a solo singer/songwriter. Sarah Jaye began her musical journey writing poetry. At eighteen, she decided to learn the guitar in order to express her pieces. She frequented open mics in San Jose, later branching out to other cities in the Bay Area to perform. For a period of time, she added a bassist and drummer to her act and named it Sarah and the Jaye Birds. Since then, she has participated in a variety of different collaborations with local artists, which she especially enjoys. Her experiences performing have cultivated a passionate love for writing songs that can reach and resonate with her audience.
